Community Cup Report
On Tuesday 20th April 2010 Barnet Community Trust held The Community Cup at The Hive training ground. Teams from all over the country participated in the cup, to win the prize of going to play the final at Wembley.
Each team that participated in the tournament was selected by been noticed as the best school team within their area. Each school would represent their local professional league 2 football club. Barnet Football Club was represented by St John Fisher School. The cup layout was firstly a group stage, then the top teams would go into a semi-final then into a final.
Volunteers from Stanmore College help run the event by participating as referees, score judges and help out at the information point. Not only was this a good experience for the students to gain vital work experience as part of their college course, 'bridging the gap' but it improved organisation of the cup. Barnet's first team players were present at the event to watch the final and hand out awards to the eventual winners.
The final two teams that were left in the cup were Barnet FC and Bournemouth FC. But unfortunately Barnet became runners up after suffering a 3-0 defeat. Both finalists received a new kit for their school as well as tickets for Barnet's next home game and medals which was presented by Barnet star Paul Furlong.
