Paul Fairclough congratulated Barnet FC Ladies on a successful season at their 2008 presentation evening in the directors' lounge at Underhill on Friday - "you have done better than my lot", he said - and told them that the margin between "good" and "great" was small and could be achieved next season.

There was, in fact, some great news for the ladies from sponsor Lawrie Martin, who said that his printing firm, Chapmans, were continuing their sponsorship next season when the team were aiming to better third place in the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division table and earn promotion to the elite national division.

Barnet Ladies also won the Middlesex County FA Women's Senior Cup for a fourth successive time and the reserves, runners-up in their league for the second successive season by the narrowest of margins, also retained the Middlesex County FA Women's Junior Cup.

Barnet FCs long unbroken involvement with the women's game is the equal of any in the country. Far "bigger" clubs have withdrawn their support for their female sections in recent time and it is to Barnet's credit that they  have seen things through.

Paul Fairclough, Lawrie Martin, Graham Slyper, the ladies' chairman, and Dennis Signy, Barnet FCs PR consultant, presented the awards.

Biggest cheer of the evening went to Underhill regular Duncan George, introduced as the ladies' No One fan. He attends all their games, first team and reserves.

The club and first team top scorer awards went to Stacey Sowden, who scored 20 in 24 games last season. Her phenomenal record with Barnet Ladies is 134 goals in 89 appearances. When she was injured late in the season, Stacey weighed in by helping the reserves in a backroom capacity.
