Barnet FC Ladies, who have lost only one game this season, are Up for the Cup.
They are relishing the tag of underdogs for the first time in this season's FA Women's Cup competition when they entertain Nottingham Forest at Hanwell Town FC in Sunday's quarter-final tie.
The Bees, the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division leaders, have defeated Gillingham, Colchester United and West Ham United, all away from home, on their way to the last eight. Nottingham Forest are the first National Division side that they have faced in this season's competition.
"We are under no illusions as to the challenge we face on Sunday", says Barnet FC Ladies Press Officer John Taylor. "Forest are a very strong side but we feel if we play to the best of our form we stand a good chance of causing an upset."
"We gave a very strong performance in the last round at West Ham. We played for the last twenty minutes of normal time and the whole of extra time with ten players. However, the team refused to be beaten and recorded a memorable victory. If we can reproduce that kind of spirit on Sunday it should be a really interesting tie."
Barnet last reached the quarter-finals during the 2000/01 season, eventually losing to Fulham. This season's cup run is the club's best since they reached the fifth round as a South East Combination side in 2005/06.
The Bees' line-up includes a player with two FA Women's Cup winners medals. Bees Captain Danielle Murphy has won the competition with both Milllwall Lionesses and Charlton Athletic.
After their 2-1 win against Crystal Palace on Sunday, Barnet currently head the Southern Division table by five points and the League Championship remains the number one priority for the club.
"The FA Cup run has added extra interest to our campaign this season and we are extremely proud to have reached the last eight of the competition", says John Taylor. " However, we have not allowed our progress in the cup to detract from our main objective which is the Southern Division title. Having said that, our players will be giving every effort to try to overcome Forest and set up a dream sem-final with Everton."
Sunday's quarter-final tie at Hanwell Town FC kicks off at 2.00pm. The ground is in Perivale Lane, Perivale, Greenford UB6 8TL. Turn off the westbound A40 on the left filter after the Hoover building, continue to the traffic lights and turn left. The nearest Underground station is Perivale (Central Line).
The Ladies would welcome your support.
