Skipper to Miss Seaside Trip

Posted on: Thu 11 Oct 2007

Ismail Yakubu, who has not been on the losing side since Paul Fairclough gave him the captain's armband at the start of the season, is ruled out of Tuesday's second round visit to League 1 side Brighton and Hove Albion in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The 22-year-old central defender limped out of the game with Stockport County on Saturday with a groin injury, which physiotherapist Mark Stein will assess today.

"I doubt he will be able to play tomorrow", said manager Paul Fairclough, "At the best he is a major doubt".

Fairclough will definitely need to replace 17-year-old on-loan midfielder Josh Wright, who signed off with his first goal for Barnet at Stockport before reporting for England U19 duty that will also rule him out of the League 2 home date with Mansfield Town on Saturday.

Republic of Ireland defender Joe O'Cearuill stood in for Yakubu on Saturday and did well. Fairclough has added Danny Hart and Stephane Seanla to the squad for the visit to Brighton and promises travelling supporters: "We will field our strongest available team."
