Cliff Akurang, a 6ft 2ins tall proven marksman with 10 goals in 19 games this season for Blue Square Premier side Histon, is set to sign for Barnet for an undisclosed fee for the January transfer window.

A deal for the 26-year-old former Dagenham & Redbridge forward, who partnered Tresor Kandol at one time, was agreed yesterday evening after the staff and directors' Christmas lunch and is subject to a medical examination.

Histon chairman Gareth Baldwin said that the offer from the Bees was "something we have to listen to". Barnet made an inquiry about Akurang earlier this week and followed up with a written offer.
Histon top scorer Akurang, who signed a two year contract in the summer, scored a hat-trick against Torquay United this season and has also netted against Aldershot, Grays Athletic, York City, Kidderminster Harriers, Altrincham and Rushden and Diamonds.

He was formerly with Thurrock and scored "loads of goals" alongside Kandol. He switched to Heybridge Swifts - John Still tried to sign him for Dagenham, but could not match Swifts offer ! - and eventually switched to Daggers for two seasons.

His record there was eight goals in 22 games, but he played wide, in midfield, at right back and in central defence in addition to his favourite centre forward role.

Akurang was signed by Histon for £5,000 and played a part in the second half of the pre-season defeat at the hands of Barnet in August. Histon manager Steve Fallon, who spoke of Akurang's popularity, said that he felt that the striker could more than hold his own in League 2.
