A POSH MOVE FOR LIAM

Posted on: Thu 27 Dec 2007

Liam Hatch is set to join Peterborough United in the January transfer window for a fee of £150,000, which will be spread over a period of two and a half years.

The clubs agreed the move after Barnet's 3-1 victory against Dagenham & Redbridge, in which Hatch played a prominent part, and Posh will make moves when the paper work is completed tomorrow to try to get him registered for the New Year games,

Despite the signing of Histon striker Cliff Akarang earlier in the day, chairman Tony Kleanthous announced that Barnet would still like to sign another striker in the transfer window.

The 25-year-old Hatch, who cost the Bees £23,000 when signed from Gravesend & Northfleet, recently resisted a renewed bid from the chairman and manager Paul Fairclough to sign an extended contract until 2010.

Barnet turned down a bid from League 2 rivals Shrewsbury Town earlier this month, but have struck a deal with former Barnet manager Barry Fry, now Peterborough's Director of Football, that it was felt that the club had to accept. Hatch, who has scored 31 goals for Barnet, has hit a purple hatch this season with eight in 10 games after starting the season with 11 games as a substitute.

The chairman said: "I am really sorry to see Liam go. He epitomises the spirit of our club. I completely understand why he wants to move on to make more money - we manage to attract players to Underhill as we are honourable when they get the chance to better themselves. It would have been dishonourable to hold him back when he, as well as the club, will do well out of the move.

"Liam is a popular figure at Underhill and has always given 100 per cent in the Barnet cause. I am sure all at Barnet will wish him well in the next phase of his career".
