GRIM NEWS FOR BECKWITH
Posted on: Mon 10 Mar 2008
Nine-goal Adam Birchall missed training today with a tight hamstring and will have a late fitness test before a decision on whether or not he can keep his place in the side for the Coca-Cola League 2 visit to bogey side Grimsby Town.
The 23-year-old Birchall and French left back Kenny Gillet, who got over a groin problem on Saturday to make a 23rd consecutive appearance at Notts County, are doubts for the game. The 22-year-old Gillet also missed training on Monday with a medial ligament problem.
Physiotherapist Mark Stein said that 23-year-old goalkeeper Rob Beckwith, who had to go off in the first half at Meadow Lane on Saturday with a hamstring injury, was ruled out for the trip to Grimsby. Lee Harrison, the 36-year-old club captain, will again deputise.
Stein added: "I am hoping that Adam and Kenny will be able to make it at Grimsby",
Sad statistical footnote: The Bees have failed to take a point or score a goal against Grimsby since their return to the Football League two seasons ago.
