Jason Puncheon, who turns 22 at the end of next week, is set to sign for Championship side Plymouth Argyle in a £250,000 deal when the transfer window opens at the beginning of July.
The fee was agreed between the clubs last week and Puncheon had a medical examination on Friday and agreed personal terms with Argyle. The transfer paperwork has been agreed and will be completed on July 1.
Jason told www.barnetfc.com: "I would like to say thank you very much to the Barnet fans, the chairman and the manager, particularly for helping me through the rough time I had personally.
I am, of course, happy to get a move to be able to show my abilities at a higher level but, at the same time, I am sorry to be leaving such a good band of supporters and a chairman and a manager who gave me a chance".
The departure of the former Wimbledon and MK Dons midfielder follows a promise made to him by chairman Tony Kleanthous earlier this year.
Barnet turned down offers for the mercurial Puncheon, notably from Leeds United, and the chairman told him that the club would not stand in his way if a suitable deal was forthcoming this summer.
Tony Kleanthous said: "We are never happy when we have to sell good players, but we made a promise to Jason and are honouring that and giving him a chance to advance his career at a higher level.
"His ability to compete in a higher division is not in doubt and we wish him all the best for the future".
The skillful Puncheon was checked by Argyle manager Paul Sturrock and his scouts several times last season.
Puncheon will perhaps best be remembered by Bees' fans for his spectacular goalscoring - "he doesn't do tap-ins", I wrote. He won the Barnet FC Supporters Association awards for the Goal of the Season against Colchester United in the third round of the FA Cup in 2006 - and again this year for his spectacular goal against Bradford City in a League 2 game at Underhill.
Puncheon made 43 appearances for the Bees last season, plus four as a substitute. He played 87 games for Barnet, scoring 17 goals, after being signed by Paul Fairclough following a pre-season trial two years ago.
