BEES TO SIGN GRETNA MIDFIELDER

Posted on: Thu 24 Jul 2008
Nicky Deverdics, a 20-year-old former Newcastle United trainee who played 26 games in the Scottish Premier League with Gretna last season, is set to sign for Barnet in the morning.

The Geordie, who had a medical examination at Underhill today, later joined the Bees' squad for the visit to Harlow Town for the pre-season friendly.

The Newcastle born Deverdics played for Gateshead after being released from St James' Park in 2006 and he then moved to Northern League Bedlington Terriers.

Deverdics, a left footer, joined Gretna in March 2007 and was one of the 40 staff released by them when the club went into administration in March and resigned from the Scottish League.

He trained with the Bees at Underhill a fortnight ago but was in demand and also had a trial with a League 1 club. He drove South from Newcastle yesterday to complete the paperwork for his move, which includes getting international clearance.
