Barnet manager Paul Fairclough has adopted an innovative cutting edge scientific approach to the job of guiding his young side to promotion from League 2 this season.

He has enrolled the backing of a successful sports performance and nutrition company in the build-up to the new campaign and nutritionists Dr David McCollum and Jamie Anderson. director of One to One, the Hadley Wood Fitness Centre, have been using the latest cutting edge science to back the Bees.

They have been working all pre-season advising on day-to-day nutrition, especially pre-matches, using less stereotypical pre-match food and less commonly used supplements - to effect.

The manager says: "Having the edge in any department may just make the difference between success and failure"

The players have noticed benefits and say they feel as fit as they would normally be half way through the season. Paul Fairclough now wants to take the comprehensive metabolic profiling techniques to a new level and has organised 20 minute tests for the players at the training ground on Monday and Tuesday that until now have only been accessible in the USA.

The manager says: "Jamie Anderson approached me during the close season and I personally tested some of his theories."

"Jamie has used his knowledge and business contacts to provide this innovative testing strategy for the Barnet players. We can improve the players' fitness, speed, endurance, power and technical ability."

"Nutrition, as is psychology, is often overlooked in the modern game".

Blood, urine and saliva tests will provide each individual player with the scientific information needed to make him perform to his optimum. The tests will fine tune the players' food and supplement intake to specifically enhance efficiency,
