ALBERT AND BISHOP OFF THE LIST

Posted on: Mon 11 Aug 2008
Albert Adomah and Neal Bishop both gave Barnet a boost on the eve of the first round Carling Cup tie away to League 1 Brighton and Hove Albion by asking to come off the transfer list.

A delighted manager Paul Fairclough told www.barnetfc.com: "Both players, unprompted, came to see me to say that they are committed and want to pledge their futures to helping Barnet win promotion to League 1".

The 20 -year-old Adomah, who scored five goals in 22 games for the Bees after signing from Harrow Borough in January, asked for a move after making an immediate impact on his Football League debut and attracting a big money offer -which the Bees rejected - from a Championship side.

Former England C midfielder Bishop, 27 last Friday, played 46 games last season after signing from York City and making his League debut. He said that he wanted a transfer to "consider his options" - which many supporters believed meant a return to his roots in the North East.

The Bees took up their option on him and there was only one inquiry from a League 2 club in the summer - not in the NE - which the Bees rejected.

Paul Fairclough said that he was calling on all the players to "do something extra" after the news that recent signing Nicky Deverics requires surgery this week and is likely to be out of action for a month to six weeks.

"It's a big loss", said the manager. "He is going to be a big player for this club.

"Once the operation is out of the way he will be in the hands of physio Mark Stein, in whom I have every confidence, to get him back playing again as soon as possible".

Paul Fairclough said that he was investigating bringing in a loan player. On trial this week is Aswad Thomas, a left sided defender from Charlton Athletic who was on loan at Accrington Stanley last season.Thomas, just 19, scored twice for Stanley.

A second trialist is 19-year-old striker Mark Elston, who has been released by Arsenal and has had experience with Chelmsford City.

Later in the week the Bees will be bringing in a French striker from the Ivory Coast who has been playing in the German Second Division.

It's a pleasure to bring some positive good news.
