Nicky Bailey, who was Paul Fairclough's first signing when he became Barnet manager, has joined Charlton Athletic for a transfer deal worth £750,000.

The 24-year-old midfielder was signed by the Bees from Sutton United in 2004, with an FA tribunal ruling a fee of up to £10,000. He moved on to Southend United in July 2007 for £175,000 after making 127 appearances ... United chairman Ron Martin saying of that fee last week: "If we had progressed it could have gone up to £500,000".

Bailey was voted Southend's Player of the Year but, after turning down a new contract, he was transfer listed. The Southend chairman said: "From that moment onwards he had an eye on leaving". Manager Steve Tilson said:"He didn't want to be here".

Barnet are set to benefit for the transfer and are waiting to hear the details of Bailey's move to Charlton.
