Paul Fairclough ended his search for a proven goalscorer today when 26-year-old Cork City striker John O'Flynn signed for Barnet.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international - four goals in six games for his country - has netted 68 times in 138 starts for the eircom League of Ireland side.

The Bees are waiting for international clearance on O'Flynn before the transfer window closes at midnight.

The marksman flew to London on Sunday and completed his medical examination. He flew home from Stansted this afternoon - he has a right ankle injury and is targetting the home game against Morecambe to make his debut.

O'Flynn will wear the No 29 shirt for the Bees - he has been No 9 in his years with Cork and that is his lucky number.

He was at Peterborough United for three years from the age of 16 and told www.barnetfc.com today: "I have unfinished business in English football ... I am here to prove a point".

At Cork O'Flynn partnered Kevin Doyle and Dave Mooney, both now at Reading, and Roy O'Donavan, who moved to Sunderland but is currently on loan at Dundee United.

He was chosen for the Republic U15 and U16 sides while at Leeds AFC before joining Cork. His goals were instrumental in Cork's League championship victory in 2005; he played a leading role when Cork were FAI Cup winners last year, beating Longford Town in the final.

Negotiations to bring O'Flynn to Underhill began last Thursday and the examiner called in at Cork a fortnight ago because of the club's financial problems authorised him joining the Bees without a fee. In essence, Barnet have signed a striker worth a six-figure fee without paying a transfer fee.

The personable Cobh-born goalscorer was a favourite with Cork fans and did a lot of work in the community. He'll be a favourite with Janet Matthewson then in her Football in the Community programme.
