O'FLYNN OFF THE MARK

Posted on: Thu 18 Sep 2008
Irishman John O'Flynn scored for Barnet in his first game for the club today ... a behind-closed doors friendly against a strong Charlton Athletic side.

Assistant manager IAN HENDON's touchline view of the goal: "He got the ball to feet, a quick turn and a tidy finish.

"He looked sharp and lively round the box"

O'Flynn, who has been recovering from a hamstring injury since his arrival from Cork City, and Geordie Nicky Deverdics, the former Gretna player, each played for 65 minutes in a bid to show their fitness ahead of Saturday's League 2 home game against Bury.

"They came through ... no problem", said Ian Hendon.

Although the Bees scored first, Charlton, who were skippered by Josh Wright and including Linvoy Primus, ran out winners by 4-1. They had players with Premiership experience in their side such as Darren Ambrose and Svetoslav Todorov and the substitutes from the side that won 1-0 at Doncaster Rovers the previous evening.

The Bees, who included a couple of trialists, had Rob Beckwith in goal, Max Porter in central defence, Joe Tabiri at left back, a midfield of Luke Medley, Deverdics, Michael Leary and Kieron St Aimie and Elliott Charles partnering O'Flynn up front.
