The Bees take on Gillingham at Underhill this Saturday in League Two with the home side desperate for a win. barnetfc.com looks forward to the match.
Form
Gillingham started life in League Two in a mixed manner, with real inconsistency holding them back at the start of the season. Strong wins were countered with poor defeats, including a 7-0 drubbing at the hands of Shrewsbury Town.
They have not managed to get a really telling run going, but they sit in 9th place and are knocking on the door of the play off places. Their home form contributes to it, winning seven of ten games, losing just one but their away form has held them back, picking up just eight points from 27 on offer.
Form has been mixed of late as well, inconsistency a key word for The Gills so far this term. After managing a 1-0 win at Bury in the FA Cup, another visit there two weeks on in League Two resulted in a 4-0 defeat, having just beaten Rotherham 4-0 at Priestfield.
They retain interest in the FA Cup, with the aforementioned win over Bury plus a victory over Stockport which needed a replay. However, in the Carling Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy, Colchester ended their participation in both with 1-0 wins, both at Priestfield
Last Meetings
The two sides met last season on Barnet's record equalling run to the FA Cup Fourth Round. Gillingham were the first opponents at Underhill, and took the lead in the first half only to be pulled back by two quick strikes in the second half to put The Bees in to the second round.
You would have to go back to 1995/1996 to find the next meeting, with Gillingham being on top on both occasions, winning 2-0 and 1-0.
The first meeting back in 1991 was a thrilling 3-3 draw at Priestfield, goals from Paul Wilson, Gary Bull and Kenny Lowe to add yet more goals to a stunning start to Barnet's life in the Football League.
Players To Watch
Simeon Jackson is by far and away Gillingham's top scorer, with double the amount of goals than any other player. He has nine goals to his name, all in League Two. Former Bee Simon King will be back at Underhill again, and is sure to receive a warm welcome.
