BARNET v DAGGERS - PREVIEW

Posted on: Fri 16 Jan 2009

Barnet take on Dagenham & Redbridge this weekend at Underhill in League Two. James Harrison previews Ian Hendon's first home match in charge.

This game is LIVE on Barnet World.

The Form Guide

Despite being written off from all quarters, Dagenham & Redbridge still find themselves in a highly favourable position as they play their first game for two weeks. They are one of four teams locked together on 38 points, with their excellent goal difference leaving them 5th.

Ian Hendon takes his first home game in charge with the immediate intention of turning a woeful home record (1-3-7) round immediately. Hendon will meet a tough Daggers side however, and they have a reasonable away record with some noteable names amongst their five wins including Rochdale and Aldershot, the latter of whom had not lost at home in eleven games.

Daggers fans and players alike will be sick of travelling however, with this match being their sixth away game in their last seven. Indeed, this is The Bees' first home game for over three weeks.

Team News

Barnet

Joe Devera is set to return after an eleven match absence with a ligament injury. Abu Ogogo has returned to Arsenal for checks on an injury picked up at Bury. Neal Bishop is now fully fit and could regain his place in midfield. Paul Furlong and Tommy Black are set to make their Underhill debuts.

Daggers

Midfielder Peter Gain will be out for some time following a cartilage operation. He would have been suspended for the match anyway.

Previous Meetings

Barnet v. Dagenham & Redbridge always seems to be a highly charged affair and the two sides are not shy of a goal or two. In twelve games, a total of 49 goals have been scored.

Whilst suffering a miserable record at Victoria Road (W0-D2-L5 | F7-A20) the record at Underhill makes for far better reading (4-0-1 | 16-6) including a 4-0 win in 02/03 and a 5-0 victory in the 04/05 Conference winning season.

Last season Barnet took four points from the two matches and it would have easily been six if not for an inspired performance by veteran 'keeper and real character Tony Roberts in front of the Sky cameras at Victoria Road. A long distance strike from Anthony Thomas cancelled out former Bee Ben Strevens' effort, the the consternation of the Barnet fans as the ball rifled through a hole in the net.

At Underhill, a one-sided affair was bossed by Jason Puncheon who hit a stunning hat-trick on Boxing Day in a 3-1 win.

This year, there have already been two meetings at Victoria Road with Daggers being victorious on both occasions, 4-2 in the JPT and 2-0 a month later in League Two.
