IAN HENDON "LIVID" ABOUT PENALTY

Posted on: Sun 01 Feb 2009

Ian Hendon was "livid" that midfielder Michael Leary - two goals in 46 games for Barnet - took the late penalty against Exeter City that was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Paul Jones.

"I don't know why he took it", said Hendon, "He has never been told to take a penalty in his time at Barnet".

Skipper Kenny Gillet is the designated penalty taker but, in his absence through suspension last week, John O'Flynn was asked to deputise.

Which explains why Hendon was not happy when Leary picked up the ball when the spot kick was awarded and held on to it until he took the kick. A few minutes later the final whistle confirmed a 2-1 defeat for the Bees.
