Golden Oldie Paul Furlong - that is how he was described in the Mail on Sunday - has signed on loan for Barnet from Southend United for the rest of the season.
The 40-year-old striker, who has scored twice in five games in his first month on loan at Underhill, was brought in primarily to help leading scorer
John O'Flynn.
"He knows what his job is for the team", said Ian Hendon, "and scoring is a bonus. I am more than happy to have him for the rest of the season".
The signing of Furlong ended a busy transfer deadline day for Hendon, with three players in and one out.
Hendon's 20 years as a professional footballer under such managers as Terry Venables, Peter Shreeves, Jim Smith, Lawrie McMenemy, Paul Jewell,Sam Allardyce and Terry Yorath, plus the thousands of miles he has travelled as Paul Fairclough's assistant looking at players, has stood him in good stead.
