The Form Guide

After such an assured victory on the opening day of the season, it may come as a surprise that Chesterfield are not challenging for promotion as they sit in 13th place. However, games in hand may allow them to sneak into the playoffs with a good run.

That said, Saturday's game is Chesterfield's first of ten in little over a month, with each of their next seven Saturday matches being followed by a midweek game. It will be tough, to say the least.

Consistency has been the trouble for The Spireites. It is summed up well by a period starting in October where they struck 14 goals in three heavy wins, but only won one of their next nine league fixtures. They have however won four of their last six.

Manager Ian Hendon got his first win on board with an emphatic win over high flyers Bradford City this Saturday past. It was just the second win of the last 20 league games and was a culmination of the improvement the side has shown in recent weeks.

The side will want to build on it this weekend.

The two clubs have met eleven times in all and it's pretty evenly matched. Both sides share five wins apiece with just one draw.

Since Barnet's return to the league, it has been a case of the away side being on top. Chesterfield have won both games at Underhill, with two impressive performances. The opening day of this season saw The Spireites walk away with a 3-1 win, and last season they comfortably won 2-0.

At Saltergate last year, an intelligent, battling Barnet performance resulted in a 1-0 win, Jason Norville with goal on the rebound in front of the delighted Barnet followers. More of the same wouldn't go amiss.
