Kenny Gillet and newcomer Mark Hughes will have to fight to regain their first team places after missing games through suspension.
"It's not automatic that you walk straight back in", said
Ian Hendon today as he prepared the squad for the visit to Chesterfield. "That's changed. If the chap who stood in did well, he stays in."
Gillet returned from a four match ban against Bradford City but was on the bench until brought on for winger Yannick Bolasie late in the second half. Matt Lockwood, the 32-year-old left back brought in on loan from Colchester United to cover Gillet's absence stayed on for 90 minutes ... and Hendon wants to extend his loan period beyond a month.
The absence of Hughes last weekend gave Geordie
Nicky Deverdics the chance to show his midfield skills and a 4-1 victory lifted the confidence and morale of all 11 who started and the two subs brought on.
It's not easy to get team news out of Hendon ... he doesn't like airing his tactics or selection for the opposition to note ... but his views on suspended players coming back may give a clue.
