CAREW LEAVES BARNET
Posted on: Sun 08 Mar 2009
Ashley Carew has become the second member of the Barnet side that played in the opening game of the season against Chesterfield last August to have his contract cancelled by mutual consent - following Kieron St Aimie a fortnight ago.
The 23-year-old Carew was recalled from a loan spell with Blue Square South side Eastleigh to discuss his future. Although he had a run in the Barnet side as an experimental right back, he has only played one first team game since October - ironically the 2-0 win at AFC Bounemouth in December, Paul Fairclough's last game in charge.
"He's a good lad", said Hendon today. "Unfortunately he is not in our plans".
Carew, who turned down a chance to play for Barbados in two World Cup qualifiers against the USA last June to get fit to play for the Bees, said:"I am sad to leave - I hope to get back into the League with another club".
The former Gillingham trainee has made 37 appearances for the Bees, plus 16 as a substitute, since signing in August. 2007, scored two goals - one from inside his own half against Chesterfield, the Bees' first score this season.
