Ian Hendon spoke to Barnet World ahead of Saturday's match at Macclesfield, excerpts of which can be read below - Barnet World subscribers can listen to the full interview by clicking HERE.
"I'm delighted to get the job. Firstly I've got to thank the players, Mark Stein, Lee Harrison and everyone that's helped the cause. That includes the staff at the club, the chairman and Andrew Adie have been fantastic giving me the chance and helping me along the way.
"I was a little bit blind coming into it, but the goal was to stay in the league and we've done that emphatically in the end with four games to go and playing some good, attacking, attractive football I hope. To get the job is the icing on the cake.
"We had a run where we beat Bradford, Lincoln, Rochdale and when I look back at it, those are the games that really pushed us out of the battle and gave the lads some belief in what we can do.
"I've built up a good relationship with the fans, mostly as a player, but I know that those things can change in football. I'll know how well I'm doing by the reaction I get from the supporters and I understand that. At the moment though, I'm enjoying the job and the support from the fans has been fantastic and I'm very appreciative of that.
"Going forward I want the fans to support the team, it's not about me, it's about Barnet FC. The players need the support on the pitch.
"Macclesfield is going to be a difficult game. We know they're a big, strong side and Keith Alexander plays a certain way - we've got a few reports and DVDs on them so we won't have a lack of knowledge about what they do.
"We are down to the bare bones. We had 14 or 15 training last week and three of those are out on loan and we've picked up a few injuries so at this moment in time I'm not sure what the team will be, but we'll get out on the training pitch and go from there.
"The decision is going to come down to me to on who stays and goes and there's a carrot there for some of them. We've got players out of contract in the summer, but we've got options on some of them. There's an opportunity for them to show me what they're about and everyone is playing for their places in the squad next year.
"Busy summer? I think I've had a busy three or four months! I've lost count of the amount of games I've watched, I think it has been sixteen this month already. We've got scouts out watching games so we're well covered in that respect.
"We are looking to strengthen what we've already got. We've got to keep the nucleus of what is a very good side.
"I'm looking forward to getting my boots back on for the Legends v. Supporters game, definitely, I haven't played for over a year. Hopefully Lee [Harrison] will be fit to play some part as well. I've no idea what our team is but if there's a few legends out there I'm sure it will be fun.
