Max Porter, the 21-year-old midfield player signed from Bishop's Stortford in May, 2007, is to be released by Barnet.

Porter, whose contract expires in June, approached newly appointed manager Ian Hendon about his future.

Hendon, who has named Porter in an injury-hit team to visit Macclesfield Town tomorrow, said: "He is a first-rate young professional who I am sure has a future in the game.

"Although I have decided to release him, I have no qualms at all about playing him in the final games of the season".

Porter has made 51 appearances - plus 12 as a substitute - in his two seasons at Underhill and has scored one goal.

He has mostly featured in midfield but has also played at right-back and he was on the bench for the home game against Luton Town last weekend.

Hendon told Barnet World earlier today that he has decisions to make on who stays and who goes now that he is confirmed as manager - Porter's release is the first to be announced.
