Ismail Yakubu, who has been at Underhill since he was 11, has signed a new contract for the coming season.

The 24-year-old central defender, who has made 247 appearances for the Bees (18 more as a substitute) and scored sixteen goals, is a one-club man ... something of a rarity in modern football.

Manager Ian Hendon said this afternoon: "I was delighted with the way Ismail finished the season and that persuaded me to offer him this new deal.

"He did really well for me after I took over at the start of the year ... I have told him he has got to keep that consistency - he is an experienced pro now".

Yakubu made his first team debut for the Bees as a 16-year-old schoolboy studying for his A levels when Peter Shreeves was manager. He was linked with top clubs early in his career ... in fact, he had games for both Arsenal (in a tournament in Hong Kong) and Chelsea.

There is no question that Yakubu benefited from playing alongside 35-year-old Gary Breen in the second half of last season.
