Micah Hyde, the 34-year-old Jamaican international midfielder, has signed a one year deal with Barnet.

Manager Ian Hendon announced this latest major signing when he spoke to members of Barnet FC Supporters Association at their annual meeting in the Durham Suite at Underhill this evening.

Hyde has made 500-plus League appearances for Cambridge United, Watford, Burnley and Peterborough United. He has played 16 times for Jamaica.

Hendon said that he had been seeking a midfielder all close season following the departure of skipper Neal Bishop. Hyde, in fact, replaces Bishop in the midfield but the manager stressed that they were different types of players.

Hyde said that he decided to join the Bees after talking to the manager and hearing his ambitions for the club.

Hyde will make his debut at Dover Athletic, but will not be fazed by the strength of the next opposition - Arsenal.

"I've played against them five times", he said. "Once in a friendly, four times in competitive games. Dover .. Arsenal, variety is the spice of life".

Hyde has been training at Underhill with the Bees squad. "I'm looking forward to settling into the squad now", he said.

In the last week Hendon has signed two Hydes - Micah and former Swindon Town striker Jake, - a second Jake (Cole) and recruited Gary Breen as assistant manager and stalwart in central defence.

There's more to come.
