KAMDJO AND O'NEILL JOIN
Posted on: Thu 06 Aug 2009
Ryan O'Neill, a Northern Ireland U-21 international right back who has been with West Ham United for the past three years, signed a two year contract with Barnet this evening after a medical examination at Underhill.
The 19-year-old, who has played for the Hammers' first team in pre-season friendlies and for their reserves and youth team, comes from Dungannon, the same village in Northern Ireland as Mark Hughes.
O'Neill has made nine appearances for his country's U-21s and scored two goals.
O'Neill and Hughes, who are distantly related, played for the same Dungannon United youth club, although in different age groups.
Birmingham City, where he played towards the end of last season, and Aldershot Town both wanted O'Neill's signature, but he opted for the Bees after Hughes introduced him to the club.
O'Neill was a late trialist, playing 90 minutes against Billericay Town and Ebbsfleet United. He impressed Hendon, who said this evening: "He has been with West Ham and is a good footballer who is good on the ball ... he adds competition in the area where he plays".
Central defender Clovis Kamdjo, who made 23 appearances and scored five goals last season as Reading's youth team captain, was another Hendon signing this evening.
Kamdjo, who has been with the Royals since he was 14, played at centre half and full back in the Bees' pre-season games.
The double signings of O'Neill and Kamdjo end Hendon's pre-season rebuilding programme. There are nine newcomers, skipper Micah Hyde, goalkeeper Jake Cole, Jake Hyde, Albert Jarrett, Ahmed Deen, Paul Furlong and Daniel Leach being the others.
