SWAIN & BATES SET TO GO

Posted on: Fri 07 Aug 2009

As The Bees kick off the new season full of optimism, they have a brand new secret weapon, a new "Player" that is set to make its debut on Saturday afternoon and any Bees fans not travelling north will be able to make full use of it.

The new Barnet Player replaces the old Barnet World services and with it comes improved audio quality as well as live and exclusive commentary courtesy of Barnet Player commentator Barry Swain and, alongside him this Saturday will be match summariser Karl Bates.

Between them the pair promise and even bigger and better "show" and this year Barnet Player subscribers can email as well as text the boys in the commentary box as they overlook every kick from their cozy vantage point high in the Sincil Bank press box.

Although Barry can be heard doing regular updates on BBC London, the commentary service is no longer tied in with BBC London and Barry has agreed to continue his services this season for the club. He tips Bees as having an outside chance of the play-offs in the comprehensive BBC Sport Online preview of League 2 that outlines every team in the division.

The voice of Barnet Player says he can't wait to get back commentating on the English game after agreeing during the close season to provide commentary on live matches streamed on the internet. "In the last seven days I've commentated on a Polish League match, a Chinese League match, a Champions League match between Partizan and Nicosia and a Finnish League fixture."

On Friday evening he will be overseeing a game taking place in Finland before his dash to Lincolnshire. "I'm covering all these games in the studio in London, sadly I've not been jet setting and whilst I love commentating, you can't beat being at the stadium."

Match summariser Karl Bates will be a regular throughout the season too although wife Sally is expecting their first child early in 2010.

Saturday's commentary gets under way at 2.55pm. If you are not going to Sincil Bank be sure to listen to Barnet Player and let us bring Sincil Bank to you!
