O'FLYNN TO TRAVEL TO TORQUAY

Posted on: Thu 20 Aug 2009
First choice left back Kenny Gillet, who went off with a hamstring injury against Morecambe, is one of four doubts for Barnet's League 2 visit to Torquay United on Saturday.

Although 24-year-old Ahmed Deen, the former Macclesfield Town and Sierra Leone international left back is a readymade replacement for Gillet, Hendon could have a problem in central defence with Gary Breen and Daniel Leach both on the injured list.

The 35-year-old Breen has not played since collecting a left leg injury in the final pre-season game at Ebbsfleet United. Australian newcomer Leach picked up a dead leg injury in the midweek game.

Joe Devera, who has not started a game since coming off injured at Cambridge United, and 18-year-old former Reading youth team captain Clovis Kamdjo are the likely contenders if Hendon needs another partner for Ismail Yakubu.

Northern Ireland international midfielder Mark Hughes reports improvement to the shoulder ligament injury he collected last weekend against Shrewsbury Town, but no decision will be made on his availability until the morning of the match.

The squad, who posed for the annual team picture and head and shoulder shots at a photocall at Underhill today, travel to Devon early on Friday morning.

John O'Flynn, back in light training after the foot injury that has kept him out since pre-season, will travel with an upbeat squad. He is straining at the leash to get back on the goal trail.

O'Flynn is the designated penalty taker. In his absence the Bees have used Paul Furlong, Jake Hyde and Albert Jarrett to take three spot kicks in a week. Furlong had his saved; Hyde and Jarrett both scored.

Note for the anxious who worry about who will step up if a fourth comes along at Plainmoor this week: the clever money is on Hyde.

Statistical note: When Deen came on for Gillet against Morecambe he was playing in the same team as cousin Albert Jarrett for the first time since they lined up together as internationals for Sierra Leone
