LEACH SET TO MISS OUT ON JPT

Posted on: Mon 31 Aug 2009
Australian central defender Daniel Leach, chosen as Man of the Match against Notts County, could miss out on the first round Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie against League 1 Millwall at Underhill tomorrow, kick-off 7.45pm.

The 23-year-old went for a precautionary x-ray on an ankle problem that caused him to miss the Bank Holiday Monday training session. If he misses out, Ian Hendon would have no hesitation in playing 18-year-old former Reading youth team captain Clovis Kamdjo ... the Cameroon U17 international deputised successfully for Leach on his Football League debut in the 1-0 win at Torquay United.

Left back Kenny Gillet is also likely to miss out with his hamstring problem. Gillet spent the morning at the training ground with physiotherapist Mark Stein, who reported; "He is more likely to be back in contention at Northampton Town on Friday than tomorrow". Ahmed Deen has been a more than able deputy for the Frenchman and is likely to retain his place tomorrow.

Sky Sports News sent a reporter and cameraman to the training ground to interview Hendon and top scorer Jake Hyde, three goals in three starts and three substitute appearances since signing for the Bees the day after his 19th birthday.

With no extra time and a penalty shoot-out if the game against Millwall is level after 90 minutes, the squad practised spot kicks this morning. As two were saved and one went over the bar, Hendon joked: "I hope it doesn't go to penalties". The majority found the net though.

Hendon and the players were unhappy with some of the comments from the Notts County camp after Saturday's victory.

County's Ricky Ravenhill was reported in The Sun as saying" We shouldn't be coming to places like this and getting beaten. Barnet were never in it and we were devastated to lose to a team like them".

The Sun man at the match reported Ravenhill blasting his team mates ... and added:" It sounds as if he is getting too big for his boots. A Galactico he ain't".
And Hendon pointed out that the Bees, who finished above County last season, had the better chances, adding:"All the money in the world doesn't buy team spirit and the battling qualities that my team have got.

"The Sun chose three Barnet defenders in their team of the weekend ... central defender Leach and full backs Ryan O'Neill and Deen. That must say something".

Footnote: Teams in the JPT are committed to playing at least six of the 11 players who have started most often in first team games this season.

Seven Barnet players have played all six, Jake Cole, Ismail Yakubu, Albert Adomah, Micah Hyde, Ryan O'Neill, Albert Jarrett and Paul Furlong; Jake Hyde has taken part in all six; and Mark Hughes and Leach have missed one.
