Cousins Ahmed Deen and Albert Jarrett have received a pre-match boost ahead of tomorrow's FA Cup 1st Round tie against Darlington at Underhill by being called up by Sierra Leone for an international friendly in Holland next week.
The 24-year-old Deen, born in Freetown, is the first choice left back for his country and has made 10 appearances. Although he has been restricted to six starts and two substitute appearances since arriving at Underhill from Macclesfield Town this season, he has earned a contract and won approval from home supporters. He scored a spectacular first goal for the Bees in the 3-1 win at Northampton Town in September.
Jarrett, also born in Freetown, is a year older than his cousin and earned his two caps with Sierra Leone in 2006. Since joining Barnet from Gillingham this season, Jarrett has made 10 starts and seven appearances as a substitute - he, too, has one goal to his credit.
Deen replaced the concussed
Kenny Gillet at Chesterfield last week and Jarrett took over from Yannick Bolasie.
The cousins are among a record five full internationals in the Barnet squad: Gary Breen (Republic of Ireland), Mark Hughes (Northern Ireland) and skipper Micah Hyde (Jamaica).
Bolasie, who scored his second goal of the season in the 3-0 win against Darlington a fortnight ago, has been given permission by Plymouth Argyle to play in tomorrow's Cup tie.
The winger revealed this week that manager
Ian Hendon has been recommending a shoot-on-sight policy for him and his team-mates to provide more of a cutting edge to their attacking play.
"We need to bring this more into our games as a team, not just in the Cup but week in, week out", said Hendon." I've told Yannick to shoot more ... he knows I've got Albert Jarrett on the bench waiting to get on!"
