There will be a collection for Richard House Hospice at the Barnet v Aldershot Town match on Saturday. How Barnet FC and a group of bikers got involved in making this collection is told below.

"Modern Romance frontman Andy Kyriacou has been involved in many charity gigs. Help A London Child, SPCC, Cancer Research, Echo Trust, have all seen either Andy, or Modern Romance, contribute by giving their musical services, or as in the fundraising for Herts Air Ambulance, simply collecting money by "rattling the box" in the streets.

In recent months, through the efforts of his good friend Tony Sumpter, Andy became aware of Richard House, a hospice in East London for children with life limited illnesses. Out of interest, Andy went along for a tour and a talk about what Richard House offers these children, and was somewhat taken aback.

After the visit, Andy remarked, "I visited Richard House, a wonderful place for these children to receive special care, most of whom do not live past 16 years old, but it wasn't till I was riding my bike later that day, and had a chance to reflect on it all, that I got really sad and choked up. I realised how lucky we all are to have healthy kids who will live to an old age, and I felt that I had to do something to raise money for this home, so they can provide children with special care, whilst they are still with us".

Andy then contacted Barnet FC, for whom he wrote and recorded the now well known "Ay Ay Ay Love Barnet", and where he has family ties with Chairman Tony Kleanthous. He asked if he and a group of biker friends (all of whom ride cruisers) could assemble their bikes somewhere outside the ground on matchday, and collect money for RH. He felt the bikes would make a great showpiece, and attract attention to the collection. Of course, the club were more than happy to oblige - and on the day of the Aldershot match you'll see beautiful shiny chromed machines, accompanied by their leather clad owners, giving their time to collect for a very worthy cause.

Please make the efforts of these bikers worthwhile, by donating generously, thus helping to make life better for children who will not be with us for very long.

Feel free to chat to the guys and their wives about the bikes, or if you wish to ask for any advice if you are considering buying a bike of your own. If you already own a similar bike and want to join a club, they will be glad to help."
