TRACTOR BOY JOINS BEES ON LOAN

Posted on: Fri 12 Mar 2010
Ipswich Town and England U19 midfielder Ed Upson has signed for Barnet today on a month's loan.

Ian Hendon, already eyeing young talent for next season, made Upson his second capture in two days after watching the 20-year-old play for Ipswich in the 3-0 Suffolk Premier Cup semi-final victory against his home team side at Bury St Edmunds on Wednesday.

Hendon said: "Lee Harrison and I have watched Upson umpteen times. He is a good young player. The young lads I am bringing in at the moment are players who might be available in the future".

Upson scored the winning goal for Ipswich in The FA Youth Cup final against Southampton in 2005 as a 15-year-old.

He became a scholar at Portman Road in 2006 and signed as a professional on his 17th birthday. He went on as a substitute for the England U19 side against Belarus in 2007.

Upson has made two League Cup appearances for Ipswich and had one game as a substitute on loan at Stevenage Borough in 2008.

The newcomer will wear the No 29 shirt with the Bees. He and Peterborough United striker Ben Wright, signed yesterday, have been added to the Bees squad ahead of tomorrow's League 2 game at Underhill against Accrington Stanley.

There were no clues before Friday training how the newcomers would be utilised tomorrow. The only tangible team news is that central defender Ismail Yakubu, who has missed the last eight games, has had injections in his spine after seeing a consultant in midweek and that he and Paul Furlong, out for another fortnight with an eye problem, are again sidelined.

Midfielder David Livermore, who went off at Crewe Alexandra with a calf injury, is a week away from a return to the side.
