HENDON AND SQUAD STAY UPBEAT

Posted on: Mon 26 Apr 2010
Ahmed Deen, the 24-year-old Sierra Leone international left back, is recalled to the Barnet squad for the visit to Accrington Stanley tomorrow following the departure of Matt Lockwood.

The 33-year-old Lockwood said his farewells to his team-mates after the Rotherham United game on Saturday. His second deal at Underhill ended as he has played the allowed 93 days on loan and he finishes the season back with Colchester United.

Lockwood played 31 times for the Bees - 19 this season - and scored two goals. He was a key figure in Barnet climbing clear of the relegation zone last year.

Deen played 14 games at left and right back up to the FA Cup defeat by Accrington at Underhill on December 8 but has been restricted to two substitute appearances since. He nearly joined Dover Athletic on loan last month, but the move fell through as Daniel Leach and Joe Tabiri were there at the time.

Deen's recall brings back memories of the heady time in September when the Bees won 3-1 away to Northampton Town and topped the Leagaue 2 table overnight. Deen scored a memorable
goal that night.

Sky Sports News had a reporter and a cameraman at The Hive for Monday's training session and Ian Hendon, skipper Micah Hyde and 16-goal John O'Flynn all provided upbeat messages.

The theme of all three was: we're going to Accrington seeking a win that will preserve our League 2 status and that Grimsby Town would rather be in Barnet shoes than their own.

Despite Stanley's record of one point from the last nine games - a 0-0- draw against Darlngton, - Hendon struck a cautionary note after four successive defeats chasing that elusive last win.

"Accrington are decent at home", he said. "We are not taking them for granted".

Albert Adomah asked www.barnetfc.com to publish his plea: "We need all the support we can get - it's a vital game".

Unfortunately BFCSA travel organiser Steve Percy was only aware of 15 fans travelling by mini-bus though there are around 50 others who have taken advantage of the £5 pre-match ticket offer.

Ian Hendon ran the London Marathon in 4 hours 41 minutes on Sunday to raise cash for the protstate cancer charity ... "the hardest thing I have ever done", he admitted. First team coach Lee Harrison, whose father, Dave, is recovering from an operation, completed the course in 4 hours 59 minutes.
