BEES SIGN SPURS YOUNGSTER
Sam Cox, a 19 -year-old full back or holding midfielder who was in the Tottenham Hotspur squad for a UEFA Cup game against the Ukranian side Shakhtar Donesk, has agreed a contract with Barnet for the new season.
Cox is the fourth addition announced by Mark Stimson for his New Look squad in a busy opening three weeks as Barnet's manager. Stimson said of Cox:: "He is a young player who has been with a big club and I look forward to helping him develop his potential".
The Edgware-born youngster, who lives minutes away from the Bees' training ground in Colindale, gained some League 2 experience last season on loan at Cheltenham Town and Torquay United. He came off the bench to play against the Bees in Torquay's 1-1 draw at Underhill in January.
Cox, who has a personalised numberplate on his car - an 18th birthday present from his parents - was taken to White Hart Lane by a scout who saw him play for Brent Schools and Watling Boys Club at Burnt Oak. As a youngster at Barnfield School, Burnt Oak, he played cricket on the Barnet CC ground alongside Underrhill.
Cox, who signed his first professional contract at Spurs in July 2009, started his career at the Tottenham academy, captained the U-16 team and was a regular in the U-18 side, He was chosen for the Best X1 playing for Spurs at a tournament in Monthey in Switzerland
