REPUBLIC YOUNGSTER JOINS BARNET

Posted on: Mon 21 Jun 2010

Danny Kelly, the 6ft 1ins tall Republic of Ireland U-19 captain who Mark Stimson tried to take on loan at Gillingham last season, is joining Barnet.

The 19-year-old Kelly, who signed pro forms for Norwich City in May 2009 after starting at the club's academy,is equally at home in defence or attack -- which has led to comparisons at Carrow Road with the former Canaries star Chris Sutton.who played for England when he switched to Blackburn Rovers.

The Huntingdon - born Kelly - he still lives there - is eight days younger than Spurs defender Sam Cox, whose arrival at Underhill was announced earlier.

Mark Stimson said:"He is another young man with potential, joining us from a leading Championship club".

Does Kelly prefer life as an attacker or defender? "Up front", he told www.barnetfc.com. "I like scoring goals".

Mark Stimson, he will be pleased to hear, also sees him as an attacker. "He's a big strong lad for his age".

Barnet have had links with Norwich in recent seasons. Paul Fairclough signed Dean Sinclair and Damian Batt from the Canaries at the start of the Bees' Conference winning season.
