KABBA SIGNS FOR THE BEES
Steve Kabba, the former Crystal Palace striker who has had Premiership experience with Sheffield United and Watford, signed for Barnet shortly before the kick-off in the pre-season friendly against League 1 promotion favourites Southampton.
The 29-year-old Kabba, who had a medical at Underhill after training, wore the No 23 shirt against the Saints as he had not been allocated a squad number. He was Mark Stimson's 13th signing since taking over on June 1.
Australian central defender Daniel Leach was signing No 12 after earlier completing a medical and the paperwork. The 24-year-old Leach, released by Barnet at the end of last season, was, in fact, re-signing. He played 15 games for the Bees last season and had a month on loan at Dover Athletic. Mark Stimson signed him despite competition from another League 2 club.
Darren Dennehy, the 6ft 4ins tall Republic of Ireland U21 international central defender who has missed the last three pre-season games with a dead leg, gets a run-out in this evening's match against Wingate and Finchley (7.30 p.m.).
Dennehy chose to follow Mark Stimson to Underhill after playing on loan for him at Gillingham last season rather than accepting an offer to stay with the Kent side.
Goalkeeper Phil Carpenter, so often the substitute for ever-present Jake Cole last season, plays in tonight's game at Summers Lane with youth getting a fling.
Also on view will be young strikers Danny Kelly and Charlie Stimson and defenders Clovis Kamdjo and Reece Yorke, all of whom came on as substitutes against Southampton, plus scholar Elliott Johnson.
Mauro Vilhete, the 17-year-old scholar who made his League debut at the end of last season, misses a first chance to impress manager Stimson through injury.
The match is a return to the Abrahams Stadium for first team coach Michael Stone, who managed Wingate & Finchley from December 2007 to February 2009.
