BOSS PLEASED WITH PRE-SEASON

Posted on: Sun 01 Aug 2010
Mark Stimson is keeping his fingers crossed for a clean bill of health in his squad for next Saturday's opening League 2 match of the new season at Chesterfield's new ground.

Skipper Anwar Uddin, Joe Devera and Ricky Holmes missed the 3-1 home defeat by Peterborough United in the final pre-season friendly - and Daniel Leach was substituted with a knock in the second half.

Stimson said afterwards: "I am hoping that the players who missed the Peterborough game will be available for selection next weekend".

Glenn Poole, who scored his second pre-season goal for the Bees to open the scoring against Posh, had a penalty saved by goalkeeper Joe Lewis with the score at 1-1.

Barnet's travelling fans will remember the highly rated England U-21 keeper for a late in the game Gordon Banks style save to deny the side a point when he was on loan at Morecambe.

Manager Stimson's assessment of pre-season: "I am pleased with the performances considering the amount of new players that we have signed".

In the two months since he took over on June 1 Stimson has brought in 14 new players.

The only survivors from last season who started against Peterborough were ever-present goalkeeper Jake Cole and central defenders Clovis Kamdjo and Daniel Leach, with midfielder Mark Hughes coming on as a substitute.

Phil Carpenter, who understudied Cole last season, was on the bench. He has been training with the Bees.
