SKIPPER LIKES THE ATMOSPHERE

Posted on: Fri 03 Sep 2010
Skipper Anwar Uddin is hoping that Barnet supporters will create "an Underhill atmosphere "by cheering the team to victory against League 2 rivals Cheltenham Town tomorrow.

"The place just erupted when Mark Marshall scored our equaliser against Bury last week" said the 28-year-old Uddin. "That's the atmosphere we need.

"It was like the ground woke up - between us, players and supporters, we have to create a loud and noisy buzz.

"After Mark scored the fans were right behind us, even when it looked as if the game could have gone the other way, and by the end we looked good value for a win. It's about learning and improving.

"It is important that we now build on that performance and I really think we can do something at this club. The gaffer has brought good players in ... he knows League 2 well, so it's an exciting time for Barnet.

"It's a work in progress and we have to work as a team and be positive. The fans can see that we are trying to work hard and can see that there is a bit of quality in the side.

"It's great that Steve Kabba has been back in training this week and great to see Joe Devera back following a knee problem that led to him missing a couple of games. Joe's absence was a big blow to the back four as we had done well together until then.

Charlie Taylor, the Bees' new signing, adds another dimension up front. I know Charlie quite well from playing against him over the years and he's a great young prospect. He's got bundles of pace ... bundles of potential.

"Cheltenham have signed a good friend of mine in Wesley Thomas, a good attacking player and a good lad. He was unfortunate not to break through at Dagenham & Redbridge but is flying at the minute. Cheltenham have signed another couple of players and have improved their squad on last season - this is another tough challenge.

"Joining Barnet has been a big culture shock for me after five years of a fairy-tale story at Dagenham - but I've no regrets. I am happy with the way things are going ... it's about rolling our sleeves up at the moment looking for three points.

"We have produced a couple of decent performances and showed signs of how good we can be but it is time we started kicking on - starting from tomorrow. There are lots of good individuals in our ranks, players who could do well in other League teams, and it's about being a cohesive unit.

"I am very positive about the players that we have got and I am sure that they will deliver".

This is the first of a weekly series of player interviews coming on www.barntefc.com
