Tresor Kandol
Tresor Kandol: vital equaliser

Barnet left the Racecourse Ground with a share of the points on Saturday as they drew 1-1 with Dennis Smith's Wrexham side on a mild day in the North of Wales.

The Bees made four changes from the side that won at Cardiff City in the Carling Cup in midweek with Captain Ian Hendon returning at right back, Simon King at centre half, Lee Harrison in goal and Giuliano Grazioli in attack with Ross Flitney, Joe Devera, Paul Warhurst and Magno Vieira missing out.

Both teams started the game at a high tempo but neither side were able to create anything in the final third in the opening 15 minutes.

However, it was Wrexham's, and the game's, first shot on target in the 16th minute that was to bring about the first goal and it was to come from the boot of the in-form Mark Jones.

The Welsh international picked up the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box before sending a fierce left footed drive past Lee Harrison into the bottom left hand corner of the net for his forth goal of the season.

Four minutes later and Harrison had to be alert when Matty Done's left wing cross looked to be looping into the net but the Bees keeper palmed the ball away for a corner kick.

Moments later, though, and completely against the run of play, Barnet were came close to getting an equaliser. In the 28th minute a Hendon free kick from inside his own half found Grazioli and his first time hooked passed over his head found Kandol just outside the six yard box but his header was tipped onto a post by Mike Ingham and away for a corner kick with Simon King ready to pounce.

Done then shot wide for the home side before Grazioli did similarly for the Bees following a Kandol flicked pass forward.

Four minutes before half time and Wrexham had a good chance to extend their lead when a fine in-swinging free kick from the right by Done found the head of Steve Evans at the back post, but the big centre back could only direct his header wide of Harrison's left hand post.

The Bees began the second half without skipper Hendon who was forced off with a toe injury - former Wrexham man Warhurst replacing the Barnet captain at right back.

The second period began in similar fashion to the first with both sides unable to create a great deal in the final third.

The Bees were trying to force the play but often found the final ball was lacking as the did the home side who suffered similarly as they looked to obtain the killer second goal.

But it was Paul Fairclough's men who were to get the decisive goal to send the Bees level, again the first effort on goal by either side in the second half.

In the 62nd minute, Sinclair broke forward in the centre of midfield, going past three Wrexham players before sending the ball out to the right to Cogan who's whipped cross in between back four and goalkeeper left Kandol with the easiest of chances to head the ball home from four yards.

It was a superb move by the Bees, with some fine free-flowing football which allowed Kandol to score his third goal in a week, after his double strike against Cardiff on Tuesday, and saw Wrexham concede their first goal at home this season.

Four minutes later and the Bees were very close to taking the lead when Cogan and Puncheon combined down the right before the latter crossed to the back post where Kandol's header across goal just eluded Grazioli with Evans there to clear the ball near to his goal line for a corner kick.

Grazioli then had a goal ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper in the 69th minute as the Bees began to look like the side more likely to take the lead, although the home side were still seeing the greater amount of the ball.

Matt Crowell saw his 25 yard free kick go wide for Wrexham as they looked to get back into the game but Smith's side were looking incredibly short of ideas in the final third, despite their dominance in possession.

Wrexham then made a triple substitution in the 75th minute whilst the Bees introduced Jason Norville for Grazioli in attack.

And it was the Bees' replacement who nearly got the third goal of the game when a Puncheon corner kick flicked off of the header of a Wrexham defender. The ball fell to Charles 12 yards out but his weak effort was blocked before the goalkeeper managed to get up quickly to hold onto Norville's follow up effort.

Wrexham substitute Jon Newby then saw his effort deflected away for a corner kick, and from the resulting set piece Evans saw his header cleared in the six yard box in a frantic final ten minutes.

Bailey saw his header go wide from a Cogan corner six minutes from time but neither side could force another effort at goal as the game ended all square and took the Bees unbeaten run to three games.
