Barry Cogan's 25-yard strike rewarded a hardworking Barnet side with the three points on Saturday against Hartlepool in Coca-Cola League Two.

The Bees made three changes from the side that lost to Cheltenham Town in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday with Lee Harrison returning in goal at the expense of Ross Flitney, Andy Hessenthaler returned to the side as Captain in place of Magno Vieira whilst Paul Warhurst replaced the suspended Tresor Kandol in attack. Meanwhile, there was a change of position for Dean Sinclair who started the game in an advanced midfield role as Fairclough reverted to a 4-4-1-1 formation.

The home side started the game brightly and Willie Boland had an early chance to take the lead when his 7th minute effort was comfortably saved by Harrison from eight yards out following a fine Foley cross into the box.

Three minutes later and the Bees were to have their first chance of the game when Sinclair found Nicky Bailey 25 yards out from goal and his deflected effort was well held by Konstantopoulos in the Pools goal.

After a frantic start to the game, Hartlepool were denied the lead in the 13th minute when the linesman ruled out Daryl Duffy's effort for offside after he headed home following a Matty Robson cross.

Robson then shot over when well placed four minutes later before Gary Liddle shot wide as the home side looked to build on a promising start.

The Pools were continuing to look the more threatening when in the 24th minute Harrison managed to palm a Jon Daly effort onto the crossbar and away for a corner kick.

Barnet began to see more of the ball as the half progressed but they were creating little in front of goal as the home side looked to contain the Bees when they progressed forward.

The Pools, in turn, were also struggling to create a great deal in attack, although Harrison was forced to tip over a fine 25 yard free kick from Liddle two minutes before half time before Michael Nelson headed wide as the teams left the field level at the interval.

The home side came out for the second half with the ascendancy and Foley headed an early chance over the crossbar following a Robson cross from the left before Harrison did well to block a Nelson header moments later with Bailey there to clear the ball for a corner kick.

Barnet, with Sinclair pushed further forward, began to look a threat going forward and Cogan saw his 25 yard drive go just over Konstantopoulos' cross bar in the 59th minute. Just seconds later though, Robson had a glorious chance to put the Pools ahead but, from eight yards, he headed Foley's right wing cross over the bar.

Warhurst then saw his 20 yard drive in the 64th minute go over, after a fine Sinclair cross-field pass from the right, before Nelson saw his header cannon off of the crossbar, with Harrison able to collect the rebound, following a Robson corner kick.

Nicky Nicolau then came within inches of giving the Bees the lead in the 74th minute when his low effort from 25 yards went just wide of Konstantopoulos' left hand post.

Seven minutes from time, though, and the Bees were to shock the home supporters when they took the lead courtesy of a fine individual effort from Cogan. The Bees right winger received the ball on the half way line, after Barnet won the ball back, before he strode forward before sending his 20 yard effort from the right of the penalty area into the roof of the net past the despairing dive of Konstantopoulos in the Hartlepool goal.

The Referee added three minutes of injury time and in the final seconds Harrison did superbly well to tip over a 20 yard free kick from Liddle when the ball seemed destined for the top left hand corner.
