Barnet recorded their fifth away League victory of the campaign with a 2-1 victory at Edgar Street, goals from debutant Albert Adomah and Nicky Nicolau sealing the win. Barnet wore their black and old gold kit, this time with white shorts.
Paul Fairclough, keeping faith with the 4-5-1 formation which has been fundamental in giving the side a more resolute look over the last half a dozen games, opted for Adomoh to play wide out on the right, replacing Ashley Carew, who dropped to the bench. Tim Trebes was called up to be the substitute keeper.
On a cold crisp night the travelling Bees started the game in a determined fashion. They were quick to the ball and kept possession well. Adomah, with his first touch and keen to signal his intent, attacked the full back by pushing the ball past the defender and used his speed to some purpose.
This was a highly impressive debut. Adomah showed that he could deliver dangerous crosses with either foot and in the first half, playing in front of the Barnet bench he was being constantly encouraged by the coaching staff to take the game to the opponents, and the Bee's new signing proved he was up to the task.
The only surprise at the end of the first period was that Barnet had not managed to carve out a lead for themselves. The home side rarely threatened although mid way through the half Lee Harrison did well to parry Toumani Diagouraga's shot from ten yards, Max Porter being on hand to make a last gasp clearance.
On 52 minutes the visitors took the lead when Josh Wright travelled with the ball from his own half and played a pass into the feet of Cliff Akurang who in turn slipped the ball to Adomah in the centre forward position just inside the penalty area, he composed himself and assuredly passed the ball into the net past Wayne Brown in the Bull's goal.
Gary Hooper, on loan from Southend and a Barnet trialist pre season did carry some attacking threat for the Bulls but it wasn't until the much travelled Trevor Benjamin joined the fray from the bench in the 63rd minute that the Bees were put under any sustained pressure.
Almost immediately the former England U21 international forced a corner from which Kris Taylor delivered the perfect inswinger. Using his physique and experience Benjamin got to the ball first and the home side were level.
If Hereford were going to turn defeat into victory, this was their moment. However their rally was short lived and the Bees quickly reassumed control. Barnet sensed that a victory was not beyond them and pressed for a winner, on one occasion Ismail Yakubu found himself in an advanced attacking position but his effort went wide of the target.
Five minutes from the end of normal time late substitutes Ashley Carew and Adam Birchall combined well down the Barnet right and it was Birchall's shot which Brown could only parry into the path of Nicolau. The ex-Hereford man adjusted him positioning, because this needed to be struck with his right foot, and then confidently struck the ball past the floundering Brown.
With Adomah making a confident debut and the Bees clocking up another victory against high flying opposition on their own patch confidence is likely to be high for this weekend's home fixture against Morecambe.
