Barnet are still in search of their second home victory of the season after being on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline at Underhill today against Macclesfield Town.

The Bees opened the brighter with Adam Birchall carving out a chance for himself and John O'Flynn hit the bar with a rasper from outside the area.

Macclesfield's Martin Gritton had got himself into a good position as early as the fifth minute but his shot was wayward. Four minutes later however, the Silkmen took the lead when Gritton athletically struck a shot past Lee Harrison.

Ten minutes before half-time Gareth Evans missed a very good chance to extend the visitor's lead yet Barnet should have drawn level when a fine Albert Adomah cross from the right was headed wide by Nicky Deverdics just before the end of the half as the home side created a series of chances.

Barnet put in an ordinary performance in the first forty-five minutes and could have few complaints at being behind at the break. It was to be a different story in the second-half.

Early in the second period Luke Medley was introduced to partner O'Flynn upfront and the Bees soon drew level. In the 59th minute Adomah fed the ball to Medley whose cross was expertly turned into the net by O'Flynn.

Barnet were pushing for a winner and the visitors had visibly settled for a point. They took their time at every restart as the Bees went forward at every opportunity.

Adomah had a great chance to seal a victory for Barnet. He took the ball past a couple of defenders on the edge of the area but his well struck shot was pushed wide for a corner by Jon Brain. It was scant reward.

Worse was to come as seconds later after a series of errors substitute Francis Green drilled a shot into the corner of the net the give the visitors the lead. Given what had gone just before it was cruel blow.

Just minutes later any chance of even salvaging a point was dashed when Danny Thomas delivered a good cross into the six yard box where Nat Brown headed home. This was a salt in the wounds moment.

These two late goals were body blows for Barnet. The Silkmen would argue that they deserved to take all the points back to the Moss Rose on the basis of the number of chances they had spurned in the first half and there is some merit to that argument.

Bees' fans can point to a much better showing by their team in the second half, Barnet created enough chances to win this game without doubt, but chances need to be taken and fewer goals need to be conceded if performances are going to be turned into three points. Football has always been thus.

Barnet's next game is away at Port Vale on Tuesday night.
