The 1-0 scoreline is the key stat of the afternoon and Barnet might have lost again on their travels, but there was much to indicate at Saltergate that the Bees are close to curing their away day blues.
Jake Hyde started the game in preference to John O'Flynn who dropped to substitute.
Barnet went on the offensive from the off and had the bulk of the play in the first period. Albert Adomah and Yannick Bolasie were both on the offensive but the Bees were unable to carve out too many clear cut chances.
Barnet's superiority was such that the home fans were watching their team in virtual silence.
Five minutes before half time the home side nearly took an unwarranted lead, but Jake Cole got down well to a fiercely struck free kick and pushed the ball wide for a corner.
In the second half it was the Spireites who started the brighter, but it appeared that the Bees had weathered this opening barrage until 19 minutes into the half when the home side took the lead.
Jack Lester picked the ball up in a deep position and lofted a fine pass into the path of the eager Scott Roden. Cole did well to push the onrushing striker wide of the goal and looked to have smothered the shot, but the Chesterfield forward took advantage of his good fortune as the ball rebounded to him and his subsequent effort found the net from an acute angle.
The Bees fashioned an immediate response to going behind as Adomah floated in a beauty of a cross from the right that Jake Hyde almost got his head to.
Mark Hughes from distance and a Ismail Yakubu header were all reasonable strikes on goal as the Bees sought a deserved equaliser.
Ian Hendon introduced O'Flynn and Albert Jarrett, replacing Jake Hyde and Bolasie, in an attempt to bolster the attack, but as the game became stretched as both sides sought a goal for different reasons, one to make the game safe and the other to draw level, the home side did appear dangerous on the break.
The quick feet and eager running of Donal McDermott and substitute Roden were causing the Bees concern as Chesterfield looked to exploit any gaps as Barnet sought to draw level by pushing men forward.
Only Morecambe have come away from Saltergate with point this season, all the other league 2 opponents have been put to the sword and Barnet were so very nearly rewarded for their attack orientated approach with a point or better.
Yes, another away defeat, and the Bees have not yet turned the corner as regards their away results, but there was a definite feeling in the dressing room among the players after the game that the team was very close indeed to resolving the situation.
The Bees are next in action against Darlington in The FA Cup on Saturday at Underhill.
