The Bees won their first point of the season in a 2-2 draw with Shrewsbury Town at Underhill today, but it could so easily have been all three if Barnet had managed to hang onto a 2-1 lead they had deservedly established in the first half.
In the opening minutes Nathan Elder took full advantage of an excellent delivery into the box from the Shrewsbury left, got ahead of the Bees defence, and steered the ball wide of Jake Cole.
Barnet rallied and immediately took the game to Shrewsbury with both Alberts, Jarrett and Adomah, putting in a series of fine crosses from wide positions. Paul Furlong being a fraction away from levelling the scores from one such Adomah delivery.
Adomah won a penalty for the Bees when he was up ended when on a mazy run, but Furlong's effort was pushed wide.
When Jarrett fed Adomah his pin-point cross when met by the head of Jake Hyde to bring the Bees level on the half hour mark. And Hyde scored his second from the spot in the 44th minute to give Barnet a 2-1 advantage which their domination of the game had certainly warranted.
Kenny Gillet was having an excellent game at left back. Determined in the tackle, he made time to get forward and deliver some fine balls into the danger areas.
It really was a case that Barnet didn't want the half time whistle to blow because Shrewsbury were on the ropes and a third goal for the home side would have likely have set the Bees up for a victory.
The second half display was in a marked contrast to the first. Ian Hendon post match announced his dissatisfaction at the turnaround, despite Daniel Leach hitting the bar with a header, after Dave Hibbert had scored from a corner after 57 minutes, Elder and Hibbert both had good chances to give the visitors a lead.
Such a Salop victory would have been harsh, given how well Barnet had played in the first half and Ismail Yakubu nearly gave the Bees a victory with a towering header from an Adomah corner late on. 
Paul Simpson expressed himself pleased with a point after the match, whilst Ian Hendon certainly was not, he could sense, like most Barnet followers, that his side had got themselves into such a good position that it was frustrating that the first victory of the season was not in the bag.
Barnet are at home on Tuesday when the Bees host Morecambe.
