The dream of painting Wembley amber and black in the JPT is over for another year as Charlton Athletic defeated Barnet 4-1 at the Valley, the scoreline flattering the home side a fraction.
Ian Hendon made three changes to his starting XI from the team that took the field against Grimsby on Saturday, Daniel Leach, Albert Jarrett and Jake Hyde coming in for Gary Breen, Albert Adomah and Paul Furlong respectively.
On eleven minutes the boisterous Barnet contingent had something to cheer when John O'Flynn was on hand to supply the finishing touch after Nicky Bailey failed to clear the danger within his own six-yard box.
However Barnet did not enjoy a period in which they could consolidate their lead as within four minutes Charlton were level.
Izale Macleod was allowed too much time on the ball and his shot took a cruel deflection past Jake Cole for the equaliser.
The Bees themselves then pressed to level retake the lead with Yannick Bolasie being denied a penalty when he was unceremoniously upended, a crucial decision.
Jake Hyde was well positioned to head goalwards from one of the many corners Barnet forced on the night, but the chance came and went.
Albert Jarrett was seeing a lot of the ball out on the left and his pace and ability to get the ball into the box from his wide position was a dangerous ploy all night, but especially in the first-half.
Charlton took the lead five minutes from the half-time whistle when Tama Tuna finished crisply but despite this set back Barnet were most certainly still in the tie. Indeed in the first 10-15 minutes of the second period Barnet looked the most likely team to score next.
However In the 75th minute the home side established a two goal advantage when Nicky Bailey scored with an excellent free kick with the ball finishing in the top corner.
Barnet were now seeking a way back into the match by pushing men forward but were caught on the counter attack when the Addicks moved the ball swiftly with Scott Wagstaff crashing the ball home to take the score to 4-1.
Certainly not disgraced, the scoreline being harsh on the Bees, the only remaining route to Wembley now being via The FA Cup!
Barnet are at Rochdale on Saturday.
