Barnet Football Club are delighted to have discovered that our Walking Football Team has won Middlesex FA’s ‘Grassroots Project Of The Year’!

 

Our Walking Football Team are certainly more than a group who meet up to play twice a week on the AstroTurf at The Hive London, since their inception they have carried out some incredible community projects to benefit those in need. 

 

When the pandemic struck, the Walking Football Team clicked into gear and immediately offered their support in delivering and supplying food for both One Stonegrove’s and our Football Food Aid, food banks. Throughout both lockdowns, they were seen across the boroughs of Barnet and Harrow ensuring those who needed support during the difficult period had access to household essentials. 

 

Aside from this, they have also regularly ran zoom meetings when football was put on hold, to support and keep those who might be vulnerably engaged during the lockdown periods. 

 

Most recently, the team have introduced their walking and cycling club, in order for members to be able to keep up physical fitness, as well as ensuring mental wellbeing for members of the group. 

 

As recognition for their hard work, they have been awarded the ‘Grassroots Project Of The Year’ by the Middlesex FA, an incredible achievement for our Walking Football Team. 

 

 

Head of The Hive Foundation, Daniel Martin, said:

“On behalf of everyone at Barnet Football Club, I would like to congratulate each and every member of our Walking Football Team for this outstanding achievement. On the pitch, their numbers continue to rise and they are one of the biggest groups in the country, but more importantly away from the pitch, they have achieved amazing things within the local community.

“Their efforts have an incredible impact on those in our local area and their selfless work certainly deserves the recognition it has recieved. They are superb ambassadors for Barnet Football Club and I am sure the Bee Army will join me in congratulating them on their achievements.”
