Match Report: Altrincham 1-1 Bees

The Bees came from behind to earn a point on the road – drawing 1-1 at Altrincham in the Vanarama National League.

The game started quickly, with both teams creating early chances to take the lead.

Firstly, Ephron Mason-Clark’s low cross was knocked towards goal by Toby Mullarkey before he was just able to scramble it away from crossing the goalline.

Altrincham went straight up the other end following this near miss as Ryan Colclough took the ball down the left before he cut back inside and bent a shot around the outside of the far post.

Two more chances followed for the hosts in the 11th minute when Josh Hancock played the ball out to Colclough on the left who fired towards the bottom corner to force Aymen Azaze to tip it past the post.

The resulting corner caused more trouble for the Bees as Dan Mooney’s delivery was turned towards goal by Mullarkey who made Azaze palm his effort away from the goal.

Colclough continued to threaten down the left side and he almost set up the opener in the 17th minute when his low cross from the byline was sent against the crossbar by Mooney.

The Robins’ early pressure paid off in the 22nd minute when Mooney and Kole Hall exchanged a one-two on the edge of the box before the former curled it into the bottom corner past Azaze.

Dean Brennan’s side had a chance to equalise in the 32nd minute when Rob Hall rolled his free-kick to Adam Marriott whose shot was helped on by Mason-Clark to force Tony Thompson into a reaction save.

The Bees had another big opportunity two minutes later as Ryan De Havilland won the ball in the middle of the pitch before he played Daniel Powell through, who struck a tame effort into the goalie’s gloves.

After the break the visitors almost levelled the score when Powell’s delivery into the box was sent against the crossbar by Mason-Clark before the Robins were able to clear the danger.

The Bees’ pressure at the start of the second-half led to the equaliser when Marriott picked up the ball from 25-yards out and fired a central shot high into the back of the net.

The following 20 minutes saw the game settle down, with both sides enjoying their fair share of possession without creating any big chances.

With three minutes of normal time remaining Powell sent a fizzing cross into the box which was flicked into the air by Eddy Jones before being punched clear by Thompson.

Powell had one last chance to win it for the Bees when De Havilland found him inside the area but he was unable to hit the target – leaving both sides to share the spoils at The J Davidson Stadium.
