Match Preview | Notts County (h)

9 February 2018

EFL Sky Bet League Two – The Hive London – Saturday 10th February 2018 – KO 3pm

Team News:

Dan Sweeney serves the second of his three game suspension. Jamie Stephens (hamstring), Harry Taylor (metatarsal) and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro (knee) are out.  Elliott Johnson (knee) and Dave Tarpey (knee) are long-term absentees.

Last Time We Met:

Notts County were 2-1 winners when the sides met at Meadow Lane in October.

Rob Milsom’s 14th minute corner found Shola Ameobi at the far post and his looping header was bundled over the line with the help of Brisley but the veteran striker was awarded the goal.

Six minutes after the break, Notts County doubled their lead. The Bees failed to effectively clear a free kick, the ball was whipped back in and Ryan Yates netted.

A late Barnet rally saw substitute Simeon Akinola score with a left-footed shot across goal. In stoppage time, Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro miscued effort fell kindly into the path of Ricardo Santos who was thrown forward, but his volley from 12 yards went over the bar.

Kevin Nolan's playing career had seen him appointed captain at each Premier League club he played for - Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and West Ham United.

He was appointed as manager of Notts County on 12th January 2017 - his second managerial appointment.

Kevin was previously player-manager of Leyton Orient FC.

He had spent time training with Leyton Orient since leaving West Ham.

At the time of his appointment at Leyton Orient, Kevin became the second youngest manager in the Sky Bet Football League behind Gary Caldwell of Wigan.

A season-long loanee from across the River Trent, Jorge Grant joined County from Forest on the 20th July.

The 23-year-old has featured in 39 games this season, scoring 17 times and assisting on 8 occasions. He had a previous loan spell at Meadow Lane during 16-17, making an immediate impact with 4 goals in his first 6 games.

He started his career in the Nike Academy.

Last Time Out:

Notts County were knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup midweek following an 8-1 defeat in a Fourth Round replay away to Premier League Swansea City.

Tammy Abraham opened the scoring early and 90 seconds later he set up Nathan Dyer to double their lead.

Dyer added a third before Noor Husin responded for the visitors. Swansea would have a 4-1 lead at the break when Abraham doubled his tally.

Goals from Kyle Naughton, Wayne Routledge, Tom Carroll and Daniel James in the second half made it a record margin of victory for the Welsh side at the Liberty Stadium.

Last time Notts County were in League Two action, they were 4-1 winners over Crewe in front of over 17,000 fans at Meadow Lane.

Match Reports

Report | Barnet FC 1-0 Notts County

10 February 2018

Barnet snatch all three points thanks to Alex Nicholls' strike in the third minute of stoppage time.

It was an end-to-end affair at The Hive London. Barnet's first shot came through Ruben Bover 12 minutes in, but it was comfortable for Adam Collin.

Jonathan Forte was denied by an excellent last ditch tackle from Charlie Clough as the substitute raced down on Craig Ross' goal.

Alex Nicholls had a low snapshot saved and Forte shot inches wide of the right hand post.

Forte had another chance for the visitors after the restart, but Craig Ross pulled off a good save with his feet.

Home debutant Jordan Nicholson had a goalbound effort well saved by Collin, the ball fell to Simeon Akinola but he couldn't get a clean shot away and hit the side netting.

In the third and final minute of second half stoppage time, Craig Ross hit the ball low and hard over the top of the Notts County back line towards Alex Nicholls. The forward took a touch with his chest before firing past Collin and earning a much needed win for the Bees.

Attendance - 1752 (606 Notts County fans)

Barnet line-up: Ross, Brindley, Clough, Santos (Plavotic 83'), Watson, Weston, Akinde, Tutonda, Bover (Akinola 45'), Nicholls, Nicholson (Vilhete 82')

Unused: Legg, Coulthirst, J. Taylor, Sule.
