Match Preview | Lincoln City (h)

EFL Sky Bet League Two – The Hive London – Saturday 20th January 2018 – KO 3pm

Team News:

Jamie Stephens (hamstring), Harry Taylor (metatarsal), Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro (knee) remain sidelined.

Elliott Johnson (knee) and Dave Tarpey (knee) are both out with long-term injuries.

Mauro Vilhete played just over an hour midweek in the Middlesex Senior Cup as he recovers from the knock which kept him out of our match at Crawley Town.

Last Time We Met:

Lincoln City were 2-1 winners when the two sides met at Sincil Bank earlier this season.

The match was won in the first half thanks to strikes from Olly Palmer and Harry Anderson.

After the break, the Bees were a much better side and pulled one back thanks to Shaq Coulthirst who took a great first touch before volleying past Josh Vickers in the Lincoln goal.

Barnet had their chances to get something out of the game but almost conceded a third if it wasn’t for a superb save from Craig Ross to tip over Harry Anderson’s effort.

Manager:

Brothers Danny and Nicky Cowley were unveiled as the Club's new management team on Friday 13 May 2016 having led Braintree Town to a third-placed finish in the Vanarama National League only to miss out on a place in the Promotion Final at Wembley Stadium after losing to Grimsby Town in the semi-finals

A former player with Romford and Hornchurch, Danny cut his managerial teeth alongside Danny Scopes at Concord Rangers in 2007, leading the Essex outfit to the Essex Senior League title and promotion to the Ryman League Division 1 North plus a place in the last eight of the FA Vase.

Having lost to Waltham Abbey on penalties in the play-offs the following season, a second promotion was ensured in 2010 when Concord defeated Enfield 3-1 in the end-of-season showdown. Concord consolidated in the Ryman Premier League for the next two years and at the end of the 2011/12 season, Danny Scopes stepped down leaving Danny Cowley in sole charge.

Concord's rapid rise under Danny's tutelage continued with another play-off success and promotion to Conference South in 2013. An Essex Senior Cup win also came Concord's way in 2013/14 and the following season they retained the trophy, reached the First Round Proper of the FA Cup for the first time in their history and pulled off a stunning 6-2 win at Football League bound Barnet in the FA Trophy.

Danny departed Concord for Braintree Town at the end of the 2014/15 season, as did his younger brother and assistant manager Nicky, who made 268 appearances for Concord as a player, the majority as club captain, before making the switch to a coaching role.

The Cowley brothers continued their impressive record at Braintree, leading the part-timers to a superb top three finish making them amongst the most sought-after young management team in the game.

Both Danny and Nicky joined the Club on a full-time basis having previously combined their football management with jobs as Physical Education teachers at Fitzwimarc School in Rayleigh.

Their first season in charge of the Imps was nothing short of remarkable as they led the Club to the Vanarama National League title and the last four of The FA Trophy plus a historic FA Cup run which came to an end at the Quarter Final stage.

Dangerman:

On loan from Ipswich Town until the end of the season, Danny Rowe became the Imps first signing of the January transfer window.

Manchester-born Rowe made his Football League debut Stockport County in 2009 after coming through the youth setup at Edgeley Park via Bolton Wanderers, and left for Barrow in 2012 after making over 50 appearances for the Hatters.

After spending a season at Holker Street, Rowe joined Macclesfield Town in the summer of 2013, before switching to AFC Fylde at the end of the season.

He then re-joined the Silkmen at the beginning of the 2015/16 season, and spent 18 successful months there, scoring 11 goals from the wing in 58 league starts. before coming to the attention of Ipswich Town in January 2017.

He registered an assist on his debut last weekend against Notts County.

Connections:

On loan at Barnet from Swansea last season, goalkeeper Josh Vickers made 26 appearances during his time at The Hive London. In the summer of 2017, he signed for Lincoln City, making his debut in the Carabao Cup against Rotherham in August.

He made his first league start for the Imps against the Bees in September.

Last Time Out:

Lincoln drew 2-2 at home to Notts County in their last match. Notts took the lead through Jon Stead but the Imps hit back immediately thanks to Lee Frecklington, marking his return to Lincoln from Rotherham with a goal.

Matt Green put Lincoln, who had manager Danny Cowley sent to the stands, in front midway through the second half but Jorge Grant levelled for County 14 minutes from time.

Lincoln: Farman, Habergham, Waterfall, Rhead (Palmer 79’), Green, Williams (Whitehouse 84’), Bostwick, Frecklington, Eardley, Rowe (Rowe 72’), Woodyard.
