Preview | Braintree Town vs Barnet FC

25 July 2017

The Bees travel to the IronmongeryDirect Stadium this evening to take on Braintree Town in their penultimate pre-season friendly.

Rossi Eames will be taking an “energetic side” which will feature a number of young first team players as well as a couple of trialists.

Braintree will be preparing for life in the National League South this campaign following relegation last season.

They picked up 48 points, scoring 51 but conceding 76. Their season was notable for an FA Cup run which saw them knocked out in the Second Round away to Millwall.

Simeon Akinola will be returning to face his former side after joining Barnet from Braintree over the Christmas period and he has spoken of his disappointment for the Essex side.

“It’s a great shame they got relegated but nevertheless I’m sure they’ll bounce back” he said.  “They’ll be back in the National League Premier in no time, and I look forward to seeing some old faces when we go there.”

Tickets can be purchased on the turnstiles at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.

Directions to the IronmongeryDirect Stadium can be found here.

Barnet FC’s final friendly against Concord Rangers will be the centre piece of our free Community Day, for more information click here.

Report | Braintree Town 1-3 Barnet FC

26 July 2017

The Bees made it five wins from five in pre-season as a young group of first-team players comfortably saw off Braintree Town

Following a slow start, Barnet took the lead in the nineteenth minute. Captain Mauro Vilhete set Nana Kyei through one on one before calmly dispatching past McDonald in the Braintree goal.

A couple of good opportunities followed soon after for the hosts, Craig Ross having to deny Phil Roberts with a spectacular one-handed save. Darnell Smith then put in a vital block to deny a shot from Wynter.

Barnet doubled their lead just five minutes before the half time whistle. Trialist One picked up the ball in space on the edge of the box and curled a shot past the helpless McDonald and into the net.

Trialist One turned provided four minutes into the second half, delivering a pin-point ball onto the head of Mauro Vilhete who made in three.

Justin Amaluzor tried to get in on the act shortly afterwards, his effort striking the upright.

Rossi Eames made four changes on the hour mark, with one of them almost making an instant impact. Trialist Two brought the ball forward from the right flank before cutting inside and unleashing a shot which went narrowly wide.

Chances followed for both Akinola and Coker before Braintree pulled one back with virtually the final kick of the match.

A corner from the left hand side found Ben Wyatt unmarked who headed past Kai McKenzie-Lyle.

Barnet will now prepare for our final friendly match this Saturday at The Hive against Concord Rangers. It is free entrance for all and is part of our Community Day!
